Support for North Korean Defectors
Transition from life in North Korea to South Korea is extremely challenging for the more than 27,000 North Korean defectors living in South Korea, more than 70 percent of whom are women. Action for Korea United and its partners have initiated various support programs to help these refugees acculturate and integrate into South Korean society.
History Education Academy
The History Education Academy for Korean defectors presents a new perspective to global history, paying particular attention to the history of the Korean people, from the shared heritage of 5,000 years, to the eventual division. In addition to classes, the academy has created a special tour of historic sites that highlight the heritage of the Korean people.
Korean Dream Ping-Pong Tournament
To uplift North Korean defectors and to support their assimilation, the Korean Dream Table Tennis Team program hosts weekly table tennis classes that culminate in a city-wide festival that highlights North Korean immigrants in healthy competition and in recognition of their common cultural heritage and desire for reunification.
