Over 200 people attended a special event organized by the One Korea Coalition supporting the peaceful unification of the Korean peninsula on August 14. The event was deemed a great success.
The event began with a screening of the Dresden Declaration, delivered by President Park Geun-hye, a speech that has inspired many of the activities begun by the One Korea Coalition.
Also highlighted were famous Korean composer Kim Hyung-suk, who heads the New Era Unficiation Song Campaign, and K-pop artists Na YoonKwon and Yangpa, who debuted the new song about unification.
Earlier in the day at a press conference held at the National Press Club, the artists candidly shared their hopes for the song.
Yangpa reflected, “I cannot imagine my younger brother and I pointing a gun at each other every morning, yet we are brothers and sisters.” She continued, “Through this unification song I want to awaken a confidence for reunification in the younger generation.”
Na YoonKwon told the press, “I want to get the younger generations to feel, even just a little bit more, that we can all reach this goal together.”
The song expresses such hopes for reunification.
The duo performed again at the Lincoln Memorial on August 15 accompanied by a local choir. Similar programs in Seoul and Tokyo will also unveil the same song during special commemoration ceremonies of the 70th year since Korea’s liberation.
